A message from your 2023-2024 President Drew Hartz and Executive Vice President Yinka Akinlade

Hey Lions! Our names are Drew Hartz and Yinka Akinlade and we are incredibly excited to
share our vision of how ASLMU can elevate life at LMU. Between Drew’s Health & Human
Sciences and Political Science majors, Yinka’s Film and TV Production major, and our diverse
involvements, we hope to channel our combined 4 years of ASLMU leadership into serving
you–after all, that’s what student government is all about.
With diverse experiences from Admissions to CSA to Sorority and Fraternity Life, we want to
build on the work we’ve done in ASLMU for years. Previously, Drew was privileged to serve as a Senator
and the VP of Sustainability and Operations, and Yinka as a Senator and Academic Affairs
Representative. We believe what you do shows what you stand for–but let’s look forward and
that begins with our vision.

Inspiring Integrity.
That could mean a lot of different things. To us, that means serving others with the aim of
cultivating community so that every person can be authentically themselves. It means amplifying
student voices and leveraging the university’s resources to see students thrive in a way that
wouldn’t be possible alone. It means serving the community through open channels of
communication and fostering approachability, to actively listen to students.

Individuality. Experience. Transparency.
Individuality emphasizes recognizing the uniqueness of every LMU student and supporting their
needs both personally and academically. It means collaborating with and checking the university
to fulfill previously promised antiracist initiatives. Part of what makes LMU great is our
diversity–let’s embrace it.
Experience is all about you, the students. We’ve returned from Zoom classes and now it’s time
to reimagine what the student experience looks like. Traditions will persist but don’t have to look
the same–let’s bring back Third Thursday or Comedy for a Cause. It doesn’t have to be big
things either–free donuts go a long way before your last class of the week.
Transparency is all about being dynamic and centers around serving you. We can share our
vision all day but “our” is far bigger than two people. It means expanding how we communicate,
doubling our office hours, going to you directly for feedback. It means representation.
