JOSEPH BARRAGAN

1. Joseph Barragan, Classics & Archaeology major, 2025

2. President of Pre law society & EP of Spirit and Pride for Programming team

3. Deans list all semesters, became president of honors society as a junior, maintained a high gpa while working multiple jobs,

4. Some specific experience I have that would apply to the vice president of academic affairs would be running the pre-law honors society. I have to maintain a very professional etiquette at all times that I believe would transfer well to this position. Also all of the experience I’ve gained from being in ASLMU thus far. I’m on the programming team, so not as involved with academic stuff as other positions, but I volunteer to help at so many events that I feel like I’ve really gotten to know alot of the interworking of ASLMU

5. I was in a fraternity, and I play rugby. I also help with the Over the Hump club occasionally, so I would say I’m pretty involved.

6. Professors that are on yearly contracts, and how that effects the student experience. Textbook prices are too high and it is nearly impossible for the average student to purchase a hard copy of textbooks nowadays. Another issue would be the fact that most students don’t even know their voice and opinion can make a change in our school’s academic affairs. I’d like to provide easier access for students to complain/compliment their professors and departments.

JADE CALABRIA

My name is Jade Calabria, and I am a second-year student pursuing a Business degree in Management and Leadership with a minor in Business Law. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to run for VP of Academic Affairs with ASLMU. This is an extremely important role that includes responsibilities such as overseeing academic related resources and incentives, recruiting, and representing student interests. I am so excited because this year’s elections are my chance to make a meaningful contribution to our school. Being involved on our campus is something I am very passionate about. I ran with our school’s Track and Field team my freshman year along with tutoring students in business calculus. I am also on the marketing committee for Alpha Kappa Psi, a business fraternity, and ASLMU. Being the College of Business Administration representative on the Academic Affairs Team this year has given me clarity on what this role entails and the skills necessary to perform in it. We have worked on so many things to not only help our community, but the community around our school, shown through our events, book drives, book swaps, and tabling with free academic resources, such as scantrons and donuts. Because sugar is necessary to get the brain going. Increasing the amount of academic incentives and events would encourage student success and happiness. I am running for this role not only because I want to incorporate more of my ideas into this school, but also to represent and execute your ideas. ASLMU is the student body's voice and its resources should go to things that the students care about. In this role, I would stress the importance of collaborating with other academic and career oriented student organizations. Partnering with ASLMU can bring a lot of new opportunities to your clubs, as well as provide me with different viewpoints for our student’s needs and interests. As your liaison between faculty and students, I am extremely interested in hearing some of your thoughts. So for anyone who has at least one idea, I'm asking you to vote for me because I would love to represent it.
