ANDREA PAYRE MADRIGAL

Hello!

My name is Andrea Payre Madrigal, and I am a Junior majoring in Environmental Studies,

Entrepreneurship, and Marketing. I am running for the position of VP of Sustainability and Operations because I am motivated to continue the efforts towards building a campus-wide composting system that current ASLMU President Drew Hartz and I restarted in 2022, when I was the Sustainability Intern for Sodexo. I would also like to increase transparency and understanding for students as to what LMU’s investments are contributing to by sitting on the Responsible Investing Advisory Committee (RIAC) as the undergraduate and student government representative. Finally, I will work to increase student and club participation in sustainability initiatives by hosting a monthly roundtable meeting with campus organizations focused on sustainability such as service organizations, Surfrider LMU, Eco-Students, and more. I believe I am qualified to hold this position because I have held the position of VP of Service for my service organization Espérer- the focuses of which are human trafficking awareness and environmental justice- and the position of Policy Coordinator for Surfrider LMU. Through my additional leadership roles within Campus Ministry and RHA, I have received the Peg Dolan, R.S.H.M. and the Renee L. Harrangue, Ph.D. - and have been nominated for the Alfred Kilp, S.J.- Student Service and Leadership Awards. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to serving the sustainability interests of the LMU community if elected.

KAI GAMBOA

Hi everyone! My name is Kai Gamboa and I am a junior Environmental Studies major passionate about sustainability and reducing impact on campus. As a member of ASLMU’s Sustainability Committee, NetImpactLMU, and SurfriderLMU, I’ve been fortunate to work on several community-based initiatives including beach clean-ups and the recently passed Measure HLA. As one of MarComm’s student photographer’s I have experience individually managing creative projects and look forward to transferring these skills to promoting sustainability on campus. With Ballona Wetland’s down the bluff and the coast a mile away, I believe LMU has a great responsibility of reducing the impact we have on nearby ecosystems. With that being said, I believe it is ASLMU’s duty to implement accessible composting and eliminate single-use plastics on campus in the coming school years. As sustainable development begins with community input I am committed to a collaborative approach to achieving an eco-friendly culture on campus.
